Founded in 1903, the Ford Motor Company has been a symbol of America and the American dream for more than a century. Always at the forefront of automotive innovation and keen to be in touch with consumer desires, the company has managed to cater to a broad demographic across several generations.
To learn about the Ford truck division’s illustrious history, continue reading below.
The 1917 Ford TT
The most memorable vehicle from Ford’s early lineups is unquestionably the Model T, the world’s first affordable automobile. Less than a decade after launching the Model T, the first Ford Truck was introduced onto the streets of America. The Ford Model TT, whose mechanics were inspired by the Model T, was more rugged and capable of handling rough terrain than any mass-produced vehicle produced at the time.
A Bed, Please
The truck bed that inspired the name “pickup” was incorporated into the TT’s design in 1924. It became popular with consumers immediately.
Mid-Century Ford Trucks
The Ford F-Series, a pickup line still in production today, was introduced by the Ford Motor Company in 1948. It was available in eight different weight ratings and five body styles. Currently in its 12th generation, the Ford F-Series has undergone some changes but still retains its heavy-duty, off-road charm.
Trucks of the 1980s
By the time 1980 rolled around, the F-Series was in its seventh generation of production. It had a larger body than early generations, a powerful engine, and a steering column lever three-speed manual transmission. 1983 was another big year for the F-Series, marking the point in time at which the line started its long-standing reign as America’s best-selling vehicle.
Modern Ford Trucks: Post Y2K
With stellar consumer reviews, the latest F-150 is proof of Ford’s ability to adapt to changing needs and priorities. Equipped with an EcoBoost engine, the truck is more fuel efficient than ever. Its exterior looks less rugged than it did in years past, yet the pickup is still capable of the heavy-duty hauling it has handled well for decades.
While most of the pickup trucks in the Trucks Only Sales inventory would fit into the modern Ford truck category, we have some classic heavy-duty vehicles as well.
